Galva High School Students Win Top Honors in National #MadePossibleByFertilizer Digital Contest
GALVA, Ill. — Galva High School students have been recognized in the national #MadePossibleByFertilizer Digital Contest, hosted by Nutrients for Life, earning honors in multiple categories. Lucas Piester and Tucker McDonald were named 2nd Place winners in the Social Media Category, while Ben Burris, Landon Yelm, and Fisher Appell earned 3rd Place in the Digital Poster Category.
The annual contest invited middle and high school students across the United States to explore how fertilizer supports plant growth, sustainability, and global food security through creative digital projects.
Piester and McDonald’s project, titled “Join the Conversation: What foods on your table are #MadePossibleByFertilizer?”, is an interactive social media campaign that uses bold visuals, daily quizzes, and engagement prompts to make fertilizer concepts relatable while highlighting essential nutrients and the 4Rs of nutrient stewardship. Burris, Yelm, and Appell’s project, titled “Feeding the Soil to Feed the World,” is a visually engaging poster that uses before-and-after imagery to demonstrate how fertilizer improves crop yields and plant health. Together, the projects highlight how fertilizer plays a critical role in helping farmers grow food and support a sustainable future.
“We are very excited to recognize the creativity, teamwork, and agricultural knowledge of our students,” said Mrs. Trisha Main, Agriculture Teacher at Galva High School. “In our Ag Science Crops & Soils class, we read parts of The Man Who Fed the World and learned about the work of Norman Borlaug. The contest really made students think about the world’s growing population and the challenges agriculture will face in feeding more people in the future. I’m proud of how they took those ideas and turned them into creative projects that connect agriculture and sustainability.”
The #MadePossibleByFertilizer contest challenges students to explore how science, technology, and stewardship come together to nourish the planet in the 21st century, showing how fertilizer truly makes a difference. Entries are judged on creativity, scientific accuracy, and overall impact.
Winners were announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2026, recognizing student innovation and the importance of agricultural science education.
“The #MadePossibleByFertilizer contest is an incredible opportunity to educate a new generation about fertilizers and agriculture,” said Haley Siergiej, Senior Director of Nutrients for Life. “This year’s entries—from digital posters to animated videos—showcased remarkable creativity, talent, and a clear understanding of plant nutrients,” she added. “The level of innovation made it both rewarding and challenging for our judges to select the winners.”

End of Year 2026
Thank you to all of the family and friends who came out today for our Pre K graduation. A huge shout out to Kylee Glaser for the snacks and juice that the kids received today. Also, to Destiny Lumpkins for the backdrop and the buttons. This event could not have happened without the support from each and everyone who came today. We will miss each and every one of the kids and wish them well in kindergarten.

The end of an era. The 1600m run was Bryant's final race wearing a Galva Uniform. It was bittersweet, but we are so thankful for all the years he has dedicated to the track and Cross Country programs. Way to PR tonight and go out on top.
