The Galva varsity baseball pulled out a hard fought victory over the Knoxville Blue Bullets tonight 5-4 in 11 innings. Great pitching by JP Sloan, Gage Simoneaux, and Cyrus Hurd as the three pitchers combined for 9 strikeouts and 4 runs over 11 innings. Offensively the Cats had 17 hits led by MJ Louck who was 5-5, Cyrus Hurd 3-5, Braxton Hulstrom 3-6, Ty Keup 2-6, Gage Simoneaux 2-5. Alex Davis worked the count with bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th and drew the walk to walk it off. Nice win!

Galva Art Students placed 2nd overall at Henry/Stark Art Festival and received 19 ribbons!

Individual awards were:

Allison Nordstrom - 2nd in pencil drawing-portrait & figure, 2nd -chalk pastel, 2nd - Painting-Still life, Honorable Mention-Painting/portrait & Mixed Media.

Niya Roman - 1st & 2nd place in pencil drawing landscape/animals/nature, 1st-chalk pastel, 3rd -Ink/Markers, Honorable Mention- Sculpture & Painting-Still Life, 1st in Printmaking.

Hallie Anderson - Honorable Mention for colored pencil, 1st-Oil pastel.

Makayla Blair-honorable mention-Painting Portrait.

Jurnie Owens - 2nd in Photography.

Shelby Charlet-Honorable mention-Watercolor.

Tobi Wilson - Honorable Mention-Painting portrait.

Galva Athletics for April 20, 2026: Baseball and Softball will travel to Princeville for a 4 PM start for a DH. JH Scholastic Bowl will attend the LTC Conference meet at Woodhull with a 4 PM start time. GO CATS!

Congratulations to our Kindergarteners for winning the Attendance Challenge last week! They really rocked it. this was one of the closest weeks we have had. All grade levels were in the high 90% range. Let's continue to finish strong in the final weeks of our school year! #AttendanceMatters

The K-Kids used some of their meeting time this week to practice on some teambuilding activities. The stinky shoe challenge was definitely a hit. We felt bad for Mrs. Wangelin who had to be the judge to measure their tower of stinky shoes!

Second grade was busy this week with Kristine Anderson from the State Bank of Toulon presented her lesson for Junior Achievement. She was talking about different jobs in the community. The kids broke into groups to practice making paper pizzas by reading the recipe and getting the order ready to be picked up by the customer. We appreciate the State Bank of Toulon allowing her to come and spend part of the afternoon with us each week.

PreK will be spending the next few weeks observing our eggs in our incubator. Our hope is that we will be able to hatch some baby chicks for the Galva High School FFA program.

No baseball or softball today. Princeville will host Monday with a 4pm start for both teams.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Galva Varsity and Freshman Horticulture teams! Both teams earned 1st place at the Section III Horticulture CDE at BHE. Students competed in practicums including Plant ID, Equipment ID, Floriculture Design, Plant Judging, and a written exam. The Varsity team will advance to the state competition on Friday, April 24th at Illinois State University. As we approach the month of May, I wanted to remind Galva Jr/Sr High School families, about our school calendar. Unless emergency days are required, there will be no school on Fridays in May. There are no school days on May 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th and offices will be closed. Please look ahead and make arrangements as necessary for your student.

Due to the impending weather, the track meet at Riverdale (Port Byron) has been canceled. The track teams will not travel tonight.
