National Poetry Month

5th grade students are just finishing up their poetry unit. All 5th graders wrote a personal poem in a style of their choice. They are writing their poems to enter the 28th Annual National Student Poetry Contest. There are many prizes available for students and the school to win, including a $500.00 grand prize and a new computer lab. Last year, some of our 5th grade students were published in The American Library of Poetry book. We are hoping to see many other poems published in the book this year.

Nature

As birds fly through the forest

A river flows northwest

It’s August so leaves are falling

Trees are balding and birds are calling

It is wet and damp

A few people said “we should camp”

As we go closer we realize

People don’t understand they could jeopardize it

We must work to repopularize

I theorize we should idolize NATURE
