February is the start of National Pediatric Dental Awareness month. What better of a way to kick things off than by having Shelli & Amy from Kewanee Family Dentistry present to our students the importance of taking care of our teeth. The students learned how to properly brush their teeth and what happens if they don't brush well. Shelli and Amy provided the students an opportunity to practice flossing skills by trying their hand flossing marshmallow teeth. Flossing is important to help reduce cavities and the students learned how to properly do this, all thanks to the help of Shelli & Amy.
Shelli read a story to Kindergarten that featured Mickey Mouse to teach the importance of dental health.
Our 5th and 6th grade students learned about the amount of sugar in different kinds of drinks. While everyone knows there is sugar is most drinks, the students were surprised when they saw in person the amount of sugar different drinks have. The students got to take turns measuring sugar into a container to see how much is in a can of Mello Yello, Dr. Pepper, Gatorade, etc. While there is a lot of sugar in Mello Yello, the students learned that water is the best choice.
We love seeing all of the students smiling, and thanks to Shelli and Amy, the students know how to take care of their teeth so they continue to have a wonderful smile.
Take a look at some of the pictures from our presentation.
