Upcoming Events at Galva Jr/Sr High School
Parents, students, and friends of Galva Junior/Senior High School:
Once again, we are off to a fast start to the school year. I wanted to share some thoughts as we begin a fresh year here at Galva Junior/Senior High School.
We had a great Back-to-School Locker Night and Open House. I was pleased to see the amount of students and parents sharing some time here at the school. On behalf of the faculty and staff here at Galva Jr/Sr High, thank you for your support and encouragement as we begin the new year. Classes kicked off with a 3 PM ending time thanks to air conditioning provided in the classrooms over the summer. As I mentioned last month, visible upgrades to the Junior-Senior High facilities include a parking lot resurfacing, new steps/ramp for the athletic facility, and fresh paint in the locker room and band hallways. We hope to have some new Wildcat graphics on the walls of the academic hallway very soon.
We had our Back to School Assembly to introduce our new staff members and share school goals for the year. I am continuing to place regular attendance to school as a primary goal for all students. My attendance goal is simple – students need to be at school every day. Research shows that students who regularly attend school stay engaged, successful and on track to graduation. Chronic or habitually absent students can be a sign that a student is losing interest in school, struggling with school work, dealing with a bully or facing some other potentially serious difficulty. New school board policies concerning final exam exemptions and attendance at dances is directly related to good attendance. Bullying prevention will continue to be a top goal for our district this year and we have events planned throughout the year to address bullying and educate our student body on how to report bullying and seek help. Finally, safety and security of our facility and students is priority number one and Officer Brown will assist us in maintaining our safety goals for our students.
I look forward to another successful year here at Galva Junior/Senior High. Our expectations are high and our focus is raising student achievement. Mid-County Cougar and Galva Wildcat sports are up and running. Download our Galva224 app from the Apple or Google Play stores. Please look for current announcements and updates on our Galva JR/SR High School Facebook page. It’s a great day to be a Wildcat!

We held our first "Adulting 101" sessions at Galva High School on Wednesday's 11:30 release day. Our high school teachers and local community members helped us with courses such as basic sewing, cooking, basic tire repair, home tools, business dress/attire, and more! We plan to introduce our students to skills not normally taught in our current curriculum. We will use our 11:30 days this year to continue to teach our students "life lessons/skills" they will need in the future!
