Character Counts Pillar of the Month: Trustworthiness
Welcome to a better year weather-wise thus far! We are currently hosting the 2020 1A Boys Regional Basketball Tournament here in Wildcat Country to finish out the month of February. We have just completed a successful winter sports season for our Wildcat teams and we still have others in competition. Both scholastic bowl teams are in full competition mode and our 7th and 8th Grade Girls Volleyball teams are ready for the IESA tournament. Galva will host an 8th Grade Volleyball Regional this year at the high school. The Galva Chapter of the FFA completed another successful and exciting FFA week at the school. Thanks to Galva High School Student Council for hosting a great Mid-Winter Dance in Galesburg this year.
We now have the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) for 3rd-8th grade and we are ready to begin testing the week of March 16-20. We will start the mornings with a light breakfast snack and then test up until lunch each day. Our students and staff are hard at work preparing for the state assessments that continue to be required in 7th and 8th grade. High school juniors will take the SAT and Illinois Science Assessment this year; and the 9th and 10th grade students will take the PSAT 8/9 and PSAT, respectively, on the state-wide test date of April 14 , 2020.
Spring sports are starting up in March with baseball, softball, boys and girls track, and junior high track taking us to the end of the year. If the weather continues to hold up for us, please try to come out and catch our student-athletes in action. We will also host a Junior High IESA Sectional Track meet this year at our athletic facility and I encourage everyone in the community to make it to our track this year!
Please check out our calendar and attend one of our many school-sponsored events here in Galva.
